TRAVEL

Travelling to Africa is always daunting, and as we have years of experience we want to help make it easier.

Our team of consultants are available every day of the week and weekend to help guide you through the booking process and we can even help with every aspect of your trip, from booking flights to arranging travel and medical insurance, guiding you through the visa applications and any other questions or concerns you might have.

THE WEATHER

Masai Mara Climate

The Masai Mara ecosystem has a very enjoyable climate throughout the year. The hotter months tend to be October through to February. The cooler months are June through to August. During the day temperatures are warm but are cool during the early morning and evenings. Temperatures vary between of 30°C / 77°F  during the midday and a minimum of 12°C/54°F during the night and early morning.

Masai Mara Seasons

January & February is typically dry with few scattered rain showers on occasion. These are also the hottest months in Kenya.

March, April & May is when the rains start,  April and May are when we have our heaviest showers. We love the rainy season, which creates the most beautiful dramatic skies, amazing for photography.

June, July, August, September & October is when the migration tends to start, these months are considered our cooler months.

November & December, we have our second rains for the year in November, which transforms the Masai Mara into an oasis. December is a hotter month which has benefitted from November's rain. A beautiful month to be on safari!

GOOD TO KNOW

CREDIT CARDS & CASH

It is possible to pay for massages, drinks, and any other extras via credit card at the end of your stay. We accept both Visa and Master Card in camp but please note that any credit card payment comes with a small surcharge, which varies depending on the card provider.

If guests wish to pay with US$ cash, please note that we cannot accept currency older than 2009 or any notes that are damaged.

GETTING HERE

The Amazing Mara Camp is situated in the heart of the world famous Maasai Mara Game Reserve. This reserve is situated in the north west of Kenya.

The camp is accessible either by road (a 5 hour drive from Nairobi or 4 hours from Naivasha/ Nakuru) or by air (a variety of scheduled daily flights – it is only a 40 minute flight from Nairobi to our closest airstrip – Ol Kiombo.)

Ol Kiombo airstrip is a leisurely 1 hour game drive to camp or an easy 30 minutes drive directly to camp.

VISAS

From 1st January 2024, an Electronic Travel Authorization replaces the eVisa system for Kenya.

Visitors must apply for the ETA via www.etakenya.go.ke and pay a processing fee of USD $30.

You must have a booking voucher (which our team will gladly send to you), a return ticket and your passport must be valid for 6 months after your stay.

TRAVELLING WITH CHILDREN

The Amazing Mara Camp is child friendly and all of our staff love kids. We do request that parents discuss any special requests with our team in advance. We can gladly arrange a baby sitter (at an additional cost) or can even help with accommodating your carer/ nanny if you wish to travel with one. Meals and activities can be tailored to your specific requests but would suggest, for maximum flexibility, that you book a safari car exclusively.

Our team can also offer child friendly activities such as livestock herding, pizza making, learning how to make a fire or shooting a bow and arrow – all of this is possible, but prior planning is recommended.

HOW TO BOOK

You can either book a stay at our Amazing Mara Camp through your own travel agent, or directly with us.

Our team of advisors are available 7 days a week via email, phone call or WhatsApp.

Contacts are found on our "contact us" section and page.

HEALTH

We understand that health is always a concern for our guests. We have medical experts available by phone 24 hours a day and there is a small dispensary and clinic only a short drive away.

Some guests have negative side effects from their anti-malarial medication.

It is also important to be aware that the Maasai Mara is at quite a high altitude. (1500m/ 5500ft above sea level)

Guests often mistake dehydration, altitude sickness and jet-lag for a genuine illness or even food poisoning. We suggest guests plan in advance for any of the above symptoms. And please, drink lots of water.

DIETARY & DRINKING WATER

All water (and ice) offered in our Amazing Mara Camp, be it at meals, on game drives, or in your room, is safe to drink and is purchased from Kenya’s premier water bottling company. Our drinking water is all complimentary but if you specifically need sealed bottles of water then these are available for purchase at an additional price.

Our chefs have been internationally trained to cater for any and every dietary request.

We understand that some guests may have specific requirements and, as long as we have advance information, we are more than happy to prepare your meals to suit your palate.

INSECTS & MALARIA

The Maasai Mara is a wilderness area and so, occasionally, there might be the odd insect. The area is at a high altitude where malaria is not known to exist, but we recommend that you take guidance from your family doctor.

We also encourage families to bring your own insect repellents and advise long sleeved clothing for the evenings.
